The founder of the company, Pellegrino Ponsi, takes over a foundry in Viareggio and start a production of taps. “Viareggio” is the first range born in Ponsi Rubinetterie Toscana and is still today one of the best-seller of the company. Its elegant vintage shapes, with the classical Italian four-pointed handle takes us back at the beginning of 20th century.

1943-1944

The production stop only during the wartime. Owners and employees hide away together the machinery during the bombing of city of Viareggio.

 

1950-1960

During post-war times the brand Ponsi becomes one of the most know and reliant in the italian tap area. For two decade the range “Versilia” with its three-pointed handle become the main product of the company and its identity.

1960-1970

With the arrival of the second generation of Ponsi the company spreads its wings wider in a new plant with a complete production cycle. The building of it is given to Architetto Cardini, one of the greatest exponents of the Italian rationalist architecture of those years. It is the golden age of Italian industry and Ponsi play an active and recognized role in it, each time at Fiera Mostra Convegno in Milano, at this time the main fair of the sector. Due to its growth the company transforms itself into a ltd.

Design is at the time the key factor in research & development previously considered only a mere technical product. Ponsi launch new ranges such as Toscana C and Toscana R, which shapes are imitated by many competitors.

1992

“Albany” is the brit-style mixer which opens to Ponsi the gates of the UK. This out-of-ordinary model sell up to 99% over the Chanel in its various finishings such as chrome, nickel, brass and gold.

1996

In the mid 90’s Carlo Urbinati drawns “Hovo” the first mixer made with CNC machine in Italy. With its avant-guarde and oval shapes, with its flashy color handles Hovo become an artistic range envied by the competitors.

1998

That’s the year of certification ISO 9000. All the products Ponsi are made according to EN norms with UNI certifications given by CSICERT laboratories.

2000-2001

Tastes are changing and it is time of sober and essential products. Ponsi get into the minimal style with “Saturne” and “Mercurio”, two ranges designed by Bruna Rapisarda. Materials are chrome and chrome satin with handle in colors for the Variant Round of Mercurio.

2002

With the event of Euro the continent became one big market. Ponsi get stronger in the export with its products Made in Italy mostly in the competitive and discerning markets of Germany, Netherlands and UK.

2000-2001
